They won’t understand. When you stop paying for cable because you just find nothing to watch worth paying for, they’ll think that you’re getting crotchety and just don’t want to pay the bill. When you don’t remember that you canceled the service, they will re-order it under their names and pay the bill. Then you will watch cable anyway. Quite inexpensive indeed.
