When I got sick, I kept going.
When I injured myself, I kept moving.
But when this last storm came,
I stayed in place and literally stopped in my tracks.
I’ve been through storms before—cold
and without power
Stuck without water and the glow
from the grid—but this time
I found comfort in my own resources
I breathed deeply, and I slowed down.
I watched the snow and wind move
outside my window.
And when the sun went down,
I stayed still and put
with just the light and heat from
the fire in the fireplace.
I let go of time
as the logs transitioned to powder.
I slowed down.
